President Donald Trump and his family have been in the White House for over a year now, and we have learned many things about the family throughout their time in office. However, when it comes to our First Lady Melania Trump, there are many Americans and other individuals who just aren’t quite as familiar with her and her background. So, who is our First Lady? What is her background story? We’ll answer these questions as we count down the top 10 things you didn’t know about Melania Trump, the First Lady of the United States.

Modeling Career

Much to the surprise of many individuals, First Lady Melania Trump was originally a fashion model. In fact, she began modeling as a child, at the young age of just 5 years old, in her native country of Slovenia. She developed the love for modeling from her mother, who worked creating patterns for fashion.

Philanthropy

Our First Lady is a major philanthropist. She has served as a Goodwill Ambassador for the American Red Cross, and has also contributed to the Police Athletic League. Since President Trump has taken office, First Lady Melania Trump has also spoken to the United Nations to address her campaign against bullying in schools.

Multilingual

Our First Lady is quite fluent in a variety of different languages. She, of course, speaks her native Slovene as well as English. However, she is also fluent in French and Italian, and has also dabbled in Serbo-Croatian and German as well.

Secret Service Name

It is tradition for the First Lady and the President’s secret service names to begin with the same letter. In this case, President Trump is referred to as “Mogul”, and First Lady Melania Trump is referred to as “Muse”.

She does admit to currently having help around the house, with in-home chefs, and an assistant. However, when it comes to raising their son, Barron Trump, Melania Trump has never had a nanny. She believes that the time spent raising and caring for her child is the most important, and we can’t help but agree.

Since coming from Slovenia, she became a United States citizen in 2006 after living in the country for 5 years. First Lady Melania Trump is now the second foreign born First Lady in the White House. Prior to Melania was Louisa Adams, wife of John Quincy Adams, who was originally from London, England.

Raised Catholic

It has recently been confirmed that our First Lady, Melania Trump, does practice Catholicism. She was baptized as a child to the Catholic Church. However, the baptism had to be done in secret. During that time period, the League of Communists of Slovenia controlled her native country.

Melania has been quoted saying that she is perfectly content with her family of three. She has also said that her hands were “full with her two boys, her big boy and her little boy”. This was in reference to, of course, her husband, President Donald Trump, and their son Barron.

Melania Trump had been taking architectural classes at a local university in Slovenia when she decided to leave and begin her modeling career at a full time pace. From then on, she traveled abroad to places like Milan and Paris, and eventually to New York where she began appearing on many magazine covers.
